In the celebration of the 132nd Birth Anniversary of the Nightingale of Zarzuela and the First Filipino Recording Artist, Maria Evangelista Carpena, the Laguna Tourism, Culture, Arts and Trade Office (LTCATO) invited individuals from every part of the province for the 9th Maria Carpena Kundiman Song Festival. The contest was held last October 19, 2018 at the Cultural Center of Laguna, Santa Cruz, Laguna and was participated by thirty-five competing individuals for the Elementary Category, High School Category, Open Category and Senior Citizen Category singing Kundiman songs. The champion and runners up was chosen by reputable jurors headed by Dr. Antonio Africa, Dean of Music Conservatory, University of Santo Tomas. Dwayne Nathaniel Deslate, Mariz Marte, Renzo Pastolero Luntayao and Antonio Delos Reyes were later announced as the Grand Champion in the Elementary Category, High School Category, Open Category and Senior Citizen Category respectively, receiving cash prize and plaque.

The ACTS Computer College Information Management (AIM) team was again commissioned by LTCATO to be the Official Tabulator for this event. Being part of every successful event led by LTACATO is another step added to the level of learning and experience for the ACTS Information Management Team. Looking forward for more future engagements together with the Laguna Provincial Government, ACTS Computer College supports the aim of LTCATO in promoting kundiman as a consolidation of the cultural and artistic skills that are deeply rooted in the Filipino language and traditions and also bringing consciousness to the current generation about the contemporary kundiman, presenting it as an art rather than just a symbol of culture.
